In traditional Japanese thought, spirits dwell in all things, and countless gods inhabit the natural world. Words, too, are believed to hold a spirit. A KANJI carries a worldview in its very form; a poetic form known as 四字熟語 (yojijukugo) distills an entire universe into just four characters. ICHIGON is an art series in which a Tokyo-based graphic designer weighs the beauty of each character and the depth of its meaning, one by one — and gives it form as a spirit to wear.
